Bayou St. John Confederate Submarine (1860s)

Yet another old article, but of interest to those into Civil War submarines – http://www.ussvi.org/mem/mstrysub.htm
-this story details a submarine recovered from Bayou St. John in Louisiana, that probably dates from the early days of the Civil War – long thought to be the Pioneer, built by those who later built the Hunley, its creation remains a mystery. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayou_St._John_Confederate_Submarine

for an image and several other links on the sub, including to a recent episode of the History Detectives which tried to confirm a family’s story that a relative had helped build it.
