The Puckle Gun 1700s
While rapid fire weapons are generally thought of as a 19th Century invention, James Puckle patented a rapid fire gun in 1718!

the puckle “defense” has also been cited in “small arms of the world”, with a smaller print of the illustration shown at the link, also mentioning the “square bullets for turks” and “round bullets for christians.”

It has different kinds of ammunition, depending on whether you are shootin Turks (square bullet) or Christians (round bullets). I wonder why.
